Sweet & Savory Pecan Cream Cheese Spread

This appetizer recipe might look like pecan pie, but trust me, it’s so much more!  There are the usual suspects of brown sugar, butter, and pecans, but then comes the good part.  There is onion and garlic powder in the cream cheese and mustard and Worcestershire sauce in the pecan caramel.  Yes mustard.  Just go with it.  This dish ends up being a perfectly balanced blend of sweet and savory that is sure to have your guests coming back for more!

Sweet & Savory Pecan Cream Cheese Spread

1 pound cream cheese

¼ teaspoon garlic powder

¼ teaspoon onion powder

¼ cup chopped parsley

For the candied pecans:

½ cup butter

1 cup brown sugar

2 teaspoons stone ground mustard

2 teaspoon Wsauce

1 teaspoon kosher salt

2 cups chopped pecans (slightly roasted)

Directions:

In a small bowl, combine the cream cheese, onion powder, garlic powder, and fresh parsley.  Mix with a fork or hand mixer until combined. Let chill in refrigerator for 2 or more hours.  

When ready to serve, Spread cream cheese onto a serving platter.  In a small saute pan, bring butter, brown sugar, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, and salt to a boil, stirring often.  Reduce heat to low and simmer until sugar is dissolved, about 2-3 minutes. Add the pecans to the pan and cook for one minute longer.  Pour mixture over the cream cheese on a serving platter. Serve with crackers.
