So……we have snow now! It’s pretty early in the season for it to stick around too long, but some areas not far from here received well over a foot! We were lucky enough to stay between 6-9 inches. Whew. Haha.
When the kids got home from school yesterday, they came barreling through the door with their red cheeks and noses and all asked for hot chocolate! Knowing that this isn’t something that we will be doing every day, I agreed. The first snow of the year is a pretty big deal and needs to be celebrated! In about 20 minutes, the kids were all hovered over their mugs and their bellies were warm again!
Creamy Hot Chocolate
1 – 14 ounce can sweetened condensed milk
3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
1/4 teaspoon iodized salt
10 cups milk
2 cups heavy cream
marshmallows for garnish
Directions
In a large heavy bottom saucepan, whisk together the condensed milk, cocoa powder, vanilla extract, almond extract, and salt. Turn heat on to medium-low and whisk until a rich dark chocolate color is achieved and the mixture is smooth. Slowly whisk in the milk and heavy cream. Stir occasionally to keep the mixture from scorchings. Reduce heat to low if necessary. Serve warm with marshmallows for garnish.
This mixture can be made in a slow cooker, just combine all of the ingredients, pour into the crock and cook on low for 1-2 hours, stirring occasionally.
