Last week we celebrated a birthday in our house! Most birthdays start out with pancakes, but I had recently been cleaning out my pantry and was reminded that we had a waffle iron! I decided to give Birthday Cake Waffles a try.
I decided to use a cake mix as my base to keep it simple and realistic! The texture I will admit is more cake like than waffle like, but it’s was fun, fast, and so easy! Plus, I got the outside to crisp up by laying them in a single layer of a 175 degree oven while I was making the other waffles. (There are six of us, so that takes awhile!)
Birthday Cake Waffles
1 box funfetti cake mix (or any other flavor)
1 cup milk (or half milk/half buttermilk if you have it)
3 eggs
1/3 cup vegetable oil
whipped Cream
sprinkles for garnish
Directions:
Preheat your waffle iron and oven to 175 if using it to hold the waffles warm. In a small bowl, combine the cake mix, milk, eggs, and vegetable oil. Whisk together until smooth.
Spray inside of waffle iron with non-stick spray and pour batter into the waffle iron to fill the grates. Close the lid and cook according to your waffle maker instructions. Remove the waffle from the iron and put in on the plate or on a sheet pan in your oven until ready to serve.
Garnish with whipped cream and additional sprinkles.
